Hey Sorrisi,

Thanks very much for your response today. And, it's great
to 'seeandhear' your voice back in the 'mix' at Classroom Talk!

The concept of synchronicity is aptly illustrated by the question that
is asked within the opening salutation of your post today. The "how
things fall together sometimes" is key in understanding synchronicity.

One way of looking at synchronicity, (from the term synchronism) at
least in the context of how I've been recently using it at Classroom
Talk, is to think of it as a challenge to the commonly held 'belief' or
notion of 'coincidence'. In this sense, synchronicity taps into the
idea that there are underlying, discerible patterns even with what
seems to be 'chaos', and that there really are no coincidences. So,
with this idea in mind, everything is interconnected in a web of
simultaneous action with cause and effect and can be experienced and
understood as how you said, "how things fall together sometimes".

Some commonly held ideas from physics and Buddhism are in play here,
and I've experienced enough of this phenomenon to at least consider the
distinct possibility that there is something subtantial there for me to
invest some continued investigation and possibly 'belief'. This
explanation of 'synchronicity' got a bit too theoritical and abstract,
but I thought that some background would be helpful for you to get a
handle on the 'why' and the 'what' of it's recent use in some of my
posts.

The personal side of the use of synchronicity is far more pertinent to
Classroom Talk. Please refer to some of my posts from back in May of
this year if you'd like to get some more depth and explanation of why I
chose to use it here.

The origins of the use of synchronicity as a part of the conversation
here really began right after John passed away in '07 when Marilyn and
I shared some startling similar stories of event that were unfolding in
parallel ways each of our seperate lives. Something would 'happen' for
Marliyn that seemed to be inexplicably tied to something that
was 'happening' to me even though we live two thousand miles apart. We
chose to 'believe' that these events or happenstances were
possibly 'signs' or communications from John. Of course, a very big
leap of faith is involved here, but, things occurred with such
regularity that clearly 'something' was going on.

Wishful thinking or projection on our part? Perhaps, but actual
experience is difficult to disprove or wish away.

So what does this all mean? I'm choosing to heed John's words to "watch
and wait".

Vert Best,

Scot
