Hi Eddie,
ARF….ARF….ARF
I hope your posting has been a balm for you. I always feel
differently after contributing here.
One of the things I’ve discovered is that there is no way one can
anticipate where our contributions might lead. Your post about the
dark messenger brought back several memories.
The first is of my mother who faced death with a practicality that I
often found humorous as a young man but not so now. She had her
funeral arrangements preplanned, including the choice of casket and
the jewelry she was to wear during the showing. She kept a dress and
her obituary updated and in the freezer in the basement!! All the
financial affairs were ordered with a Living trust.
The second was of a dear friend now 96 who 10 years ago when a dinner
party conversation turned to longevity said that when she turned 60
she was ready to go but when 70 she wanted another birthday.
The third was my wife who many years ago bought the book “Final Exit”
(a how to instruction guide) and kept it in her closet. When her
oncologist offered her a few good months she snapped at the
opportunity and held off until the last possible moment to authorize
hospice. During her last month she said, “I never wanted to go this
way.”
Being mindful and choosing Essence over Personality invites the dark
messenger into our lives. His visit is greatly feared and resisted by
the Personality because it prefigures the decline and perhaps even its
death. I don’t think fear/dread is a function of Essence. Acceptance
seems more likely to me. Acceptance is where I think I am at the
moment but when the moment of my physical death or that of the ego
nears who knows??
Glad you got your wagging tail in here. Your contribution is
appreciated.
All the best,
john
