"We are what we pretend to be..."

Hey All,

"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we
pretend to be."

-Kurt Vonnegut, American author

This Vonnegut quote is not a direct reference to awareness practice, but
it does allude to how human beings acquire, construct, and then act on
personal identities based on the false-self (selves) of Personality.
Vonnegut offers some knowing, world-weary advice to 'get real' (in
Classroom Talk parlance; wakefulness and self-remembering) in the form
of a caveat that acknowledges the inevitability of how we all will
"pretend to be" what we're not (JTY's recent apt descriptions of
"walking sleep" come to mind) with a glimpse of the unintended,
unforeseen consequences of living a life of impersonation as pale
imitations of an authentic self.

Best,

Scot
