As with so many other terms, these words "fate" and "destiny" have a variety of meanings in different approaches. I like to think of fate as that which we are stuck with, and destiny as that which we could attain if we become unstuck. In the reference you cited, I was referring to the possibility of a person holding back from attaining their destiny by remaining stuck in their fate. In other words, in this usage, fate refers to the life we have that comes from the activities of the ego-driven personality that is conditioned and habitual. Destiny refers to that which comes from the essence, or true self, the actions that we can take when we can become--even if just for a little while--free of our ego and personality.
